September 2004 to February 2005: County Community College. Position: Instructional Associate, High Tech Center. Responsibilities include: assisting students with their computer needs to complete their course work, primarily in Microsoft Office 2003 products. Additional software and hardware includes PhotoShop, Nero, Macintosh, Sam online testing software.

2003 to April 2004: Large Taxi/Medical Transport Company. Position: SQL DBA. The company provides taxi and medical transport through select areas of Arizona. Responsibilities included: maintaining two Microsoft SQL Server 2000 servers, network support, end user hardware and software support, wireless bridge configuration, NT network, SQL Server and SCO backup maintenance, user administration through Active Directory. Helped maintain a Digital Dispatch installation on SCO/Ingres II and wrote DTS jobs, custom queries and stored procedures to increase user productivity with the system. Maintained a Trapeze PASS system on SQL Server, also wrote DTS jobs, custom queries and stored procedures to increase user productivity and information accuracy with the system.

2001 to 2003: Self-Employed and Continuing Education. Performing Microsoft SQL Server consulting and networking, also continuing my education in Cisco and Oracle technologies. Assisted in the installation of a Microsoft LAN at a parochial school on a volunteer basis.

1992 to 2001: Major Police  Department. Position: SQL Server DBA and Database Developer. Responsibilities included: database administration, analysis and development in Access and DataFlex, database conversion from DataFlex into Access and SQL Server, Microsoft SQL database installation, administration, development and maintenance, NT network administration, OTG optical jukebox system management, and end user application development and support. Maintained and administered the implementation of over 20 databases on nine SQL 6.5 servers and four SQL 7.0 servers, providing enhancements as required. One of three network administrators of approximately 50 NT 4.0 Servers on a single domain. Created Crystal Reports as needed for a variety of query and reporting requirements.

Significant Projects for Police Department:

  • Criminal Investigation/Surveillance Database (Organized Crime). Designed and implemented several improvements into the Access database to enhance reporting capability, resolved relational and normalization problems, created a data replication system that Microsoft Access did not feature at that time. Interfaced the system with SQL databases to relate surveillance data against other data stores.

  • Payroll Entry System (Fiscal). Assisted in the development of the system including schema refinement, created the mainframe extract system (Visual Basic/SQL stored procedures) and most of the reporting systems (also VB) and wrote the initial front-end entry system (ObjectView), documenting the extract and reporting systems for non-technical users.

  • Traffic Accident Database System (Records). Performed table and index optimization and normalization tasks to improve performance of the system. Developed stored procedures and a reporting subsystem that simulated data warehousing concepts before data warehousing became a standard feature of SQL Server. Created a Microsoft Access data extract to provide monthly data to the City Streets & Transportation Department.

  • Training Records System (Academy). Reevaluated the existing legacy system with an emphasis on correcting logical design deficiencies to improve data retention and reporting systems, provided training assistance and manuals for non-technical users. Modified physical implementation to correct resource allocation issues. This system is a critical component for helping to manage officer and City liability at the Police Department.

  • Applicant Tracking System (Employment Services). Based on an existing Access database, implemented several modifications to correct initial design problems, normalize the data, improve data storage, and implement features useful to but not identified by the original users. This system tracks applicant information and status for civilian, sworn, and volunteer Police positions.

Significant Projects for State Medicare Program:

  • Implementation of a Position Control System (Budget & Research  Department). After extensive analysis of an existing legacy system, a total rewrite with a new logical design and data model was implemented to meet the needs of the Budget section. This resulted in a commendation for me from the Fiscal director.

  • Newborn APGAR Measurements Factoring in Drug Use History of Mother. A data analysis project to evaluate the relationship between infant health and maternal drug use providing database services for a nurse to complete the statistical side of the study.
